$2 a day: day two

Posted by STEVEmcfly on January 15, 2008

Well it’s midday on day two of this experiment and generally I feel pretty solid. Sure, I’ve been hungry, but at no point have I ever been overwhelmingly hungry and it has never approached the level of “oh shit I really should eat because this is killing me.”

I think tonight I’m going to make the first batch of spaghetti. Originally I only counted the spaghetti making ~5 meals but I get the feeling it’s going to go quite a bit further than that. The box of spaghetti I have is a 3 lb monster, so to make it 6 meals I’d be eating a 1/2 lb of spaghetti per meal. When I make it tonight I’ll guesstimate about half of the box and I’ll use one of my two cans of sauce. I’m still trying to think about the best way to go about cutting my 1 lb of sausage in half. The whole reason I bought the fatty pork sausage is for the flavor of the spaghetti sauce since I passed on buying grated parmesan cheese, so I don’t wanna use it all for one batch of spaghetti and just have sauce and noodles for the second batch. What I think I’ll do is try to thaw it as little as possible to where I can cut it in half and refreeze the second half… I hestitate to cook it all and store it because I don’t know how long it will keep and I hesitate to cook it and refreeze the half I don’t use because that would surely kill the flavor of the sausage (and the point in buying it). I’ll be sure to take a few pics and post what I can so anyone can get a visual of whats happening.

Last night I had egg sandwhiches for my last two meals which may seem interesting but after I made the first one around 8:30pm all I could think about was how good it turned out. The eggs are a bit smaller for sure, but when on the toasted bread I couldn’t notice much difference in how my stomach felt. I decided to make the second one before bed at around 11:00pm, the taste of the first one resonated in my mouth it was so good. I capped it off with about a half-golf ball sized spoonful of peanut butter for the casein protein to hopefully keep my metabolism rolling through the night.

Yesterday I didn’t get around to heading back to the store to snag those bagels so hopefully I get that done tonight, but the main priority is making that spaghetti and seeing how that turns out (which I’m sure will be fine). I have some other stuff to do tonight for my classes and a city league basketball game at 9:00pm. I’m pretty sore from lifting weights, my legs are just killing me so it’ll be interesting to see how I hobble up and down the court! Feel free to drop us a line at any point with any questions or comments, we’ll be available.

Day 2

Posted by JUICEmcfly on January 15, 2008

Yesterday around 12:30 pm I began to feel hungry. I was unable to eat until 2:00; it was rough. I had a bologna sandwich (1 slice) and a tuna sandwich (half a can), both with some light mayo. I immediately felt satisfied. I made some rice and corn at 3:30 and had a ramen at 4:45. At 5:00 I went to the gym, where I worked on my back, legs, and abs. I didn’t spend much time on the exercise bike due to the fact that my legs were already burning – something I should think about in the future. at 7:00 I had a peanut butter sandwich with 1/2 cup of apple sauce. I felt great until around 10:00, and I had not planned on going to sleep until midnight, so I had a spoonful of peanut butter (which is high in casein protein as Steve as previously mentioned).

I woke up at 8:30 today and had a bowl of oatmeal and a pancake with some peanut butter, which is more than likely what I will have every morning – no complaints here though (both are extremely filling). At 10:30 I had a tuna sandwich, again with half a can, before I went to work. I got off work early today and made a bologna sandwich with light mayo around 2:00. So far today I feel great; I slept well last night and I feel full.

Around 3:00 today I will eat my rice and corn that was pre-made yesterday. I will have a ramen before I lift at 4:30, which as a sufficient amount of carbs and protein for energy. My post work out meal will be a frozen, jalapeno bean and cheese chimichanga. I will once again eat a peanut butter sandwich with 1/2 cup applesauce for dinner – I hope for this to be my last meal. This is a fairly accurate outline of how I think the rest of my day will go.

As I said earlier, I feel great so far, and I hope for that to continue. It shouldn’t be too difficult with all the support we have. Steve and I can’t express how appreciative we are for all the feedback and constructive criticism we’ve received! Thanks to all who’ve followed along!
